About
WEAVE is an intercultural movement committed to building unity, forming leaders, and strengthening communities across cultures, generations, sectors, and nations. In a world where cultural differences often lead to misunderstanding and division, WEAVE create spaces where people can listen, learn, and lead together.
Through gatherings, leadership formation, dialogue, and practical collaboration, WEAVE brings together voices from church, community, business, and public life to explore how diversity can become a source of strength rather than separation.
At the heart of WEAVE is a simple but powerful belief: every person is made in the image of God, and when cultures meet with humility and respect, something new and beautiful can emerge.
WEAVE gatherings create environments for honest conversation, shared worship, learning, and creative expression. Participants explore identity, culture, leadership, belonging, and the future of communities in an increasingly interconnected world. Beyond events, WEAVE nurtures an ongoing ecosystem of learning and leadership development through initiatives such as the WEAVE Mirror intercultural reflection tool, Intercultural leadership exchanges, voices that shape belonging podcasts and a growing network of ambassadors committed to building bridges in their own contexts.
WEAVE exists to help cultures connect, leaders grow, and communities flourish.
Our Story: The Journey of WEAVE
Every movement begins with a moment. For WEAVE, that moment came in 2012.
In the summer of the London 2012 Olympics, the world gathered in one city. Nations stood side by side. Languages filled the streets. Cultures met, not in conflict, but in celebration.
And a question began to grow:
What would it look like if the Church truly reflected this picture - every nation, every people, worshipping and serving together?
Where It Began
The early vision was shaped through years of listening, prayer, and leadership conversations.
Through the work of the London Baptist Mission Strategy Forum, Osoba Otaigbe and others began exploring how churches could move beyond simply welcoming diversity to becoming intercultural communities—deeply connected, mutually shaped, and united in Christ.
This was not a quick idea. It was a slow work.
A work of:
-
asking honest questions
-
learning from different traditions
-
and recognising that no single culture carries the full expression of the Church
In 2016 Osoba wrote his book Bulding Cultural Intelligence in Church and Ministry, a book he has been using to practically used to shape conversation around the intercultural journey
In 2023: Listening Across Cities
In 2023, something shifted.
We stepped out to listen.
Across seven cities, we gathered church, charity, and community leaders. We asked simple but powerful questions about faith, culture, and community.
What we discovered was striking:
There was a shared hunger.
A longing for:
-
deeper unity
-
stronger relationships across cultures
-
and a Church that reflects the fullness of God’s people
It became clear that this was not one person’s vision.
God was stirring something wider.
2024: A Gathering in Leeds
In January 2024, over 150 leaders came together in Leeds.
They wrestled with two defining questions:
-
What would an intercultural church look like in our cities and towns?
-
What impact could we have if we worked together for Christ’s sake?
This was more than a conference.
It was a turning point.
Leaders shared insights, named real challenges, and began to see new possibilities. But one moment stood above the rest:
Intercultural worship.
Voices from different nations rose together.
Different languages, rhythms, and expressions blended into one sound.
It was not perfect.
But it was powerful.
A glimpse of what the Church can become.
London 2025: A Movement Takes Shape
By February 2025, the vision had grown.
Over 200 church and charity leaders gathered in London. Here, WEAVE moved from conversation to action with the launch of the:
-
Intercultural Learning Journey
-
Resource Toolkit for churches and leaders
This gathering helped shape a deeper understanding:
The Church is not called to uniformity.
It is called to unity in diversity.
Using the images of:
-
the Temple — many parts, one dwelling place
-
the Body — many members, one life
Leaders were reminded that every culture brings a gift.
And together, we reflect Christ more fully.
Today: A Growing Community
Today, WEAVE is a growing movement of leaders, churches, and organisations committed to:
-
Weaving cultures together
-
Building authentic community
-
Inspiring lasting change in our cities
At the heart of this is our Intercultural Learning Exchange—a space where leaders come together to:
-
learn from one another
-
share real experiences
-
and grow in intercultural leadership
It is simple, but powerful.
Because transformation does not begin with programmes.
It begins with people sitting together, listening, and learning.
Looking Ahead
We believe the future of the Church is already here.
It is found in our cities.
In our neighbourhoods.
In the stories of people from every nation.
WEAVE exists to help the Church step into that future—
with courage, humility, and hope.
This is not just a vision.
It is an invitation.
To build together.
To learn together.
To become the Church Jesus prayed for.
